The countdown to a New Adventure …..

On the 6th December Soveig and I are embarking on a new overland adventure.
When our recent attempt to drive through Africa from Cape Town to Oslo was thwarted, we returned home angry and devastated.

Our experience was life changing. Solveig and I both realised it wouldn’t be easy to get back into our old routine of living “normally” and longed for the freedom we experienced living simply while journeying through Africa.
We couldnt face the thought of media hype, consumerism, materialism and the need to surround ourselves with the latest stuff again!
We had changed and it no longer mattered.

When friends, Pieter and Sue van Oudtshoorn, who had almost completed their dream journey driving the entire length of the Americas, from Alaska to Patagonia, asked whether we knew of anybody that would like to drive their 4×4 camper from Buenos Aires back to the USA, we jumped at the opertunity.

In just over two weeks we begin a new adventure, experiencing new landscapes, cultures, and most importantly, people. We look forward to the uncomplicated lifestyle of living simply and without a rigid schedule, allowing the elements to dictate our day to day progress.

We have about 21000 kilometers to travel to reach our destination in USA and plan to take between 5 and 6 months to accomplish our wish. We hope to be able to document our progress and experiences on a regular basis via our blog site and look forward to the wonderful contact we enjoyed in Africa.

About Ian & Solveig's Overland Adventures

Although we never achieved our original goal of reaching Norway overland, our experience was so unexpectedly rewarding that we've not been able to settled down again! So we added new destinations to our lust for adventure. We hope that you will join us in sharing new exciting places and encounters with the amazing people we meet along the way.

    Kære Solveig & Ian

I have enjoyed to read about your “Freedom journey roaming South Africa”,its a great pleasure for me. It´s the way of travelling I have loved so much before my husbond Poul died 2009, but never will experience again – I think .You are so right, thats the way of living a good life, and I envie you the new trip you are having now….Also I thank you for the good days we had all together in January with the group in Arniston, just before you left. My son with his family is visiting Janne over Xmas, I´ll wait untill later in the new year. Wishing you both a lovely xmas and a happy New Year from Bitt (Jannes Mom from Denmark)
